Temporary Email Lifespan Planner

How long will a temporary email last? It depends on whether you’re waiting minutes or days

Fwdzy addresses last 3 hours by default and can be extended up to a maximum of 24 hours. Enter your expected wait to see whether a temporary address fits the task.

3 hours
Will you need to come back after the email arrives?
The default 3 hours should cover this task.

The countdown is not decoration

Three moments determine whether to extend

At creation

Start with the shortest task window

Most verification codes arrive within minutes. The default 3 hours allows room for delivery delays and interruptions, so there’s no need to use the full limit from the start.

One hour remaining

Check whether the sender has sent the email

If the sender says they’ll handle it later, extend the address while it’s still active. Don’t wait until the countdown reaches zero.

Approaching 24 hours

Stop treating a temporary address as a long-term inbox

Approvals, draws, and manual invitations that take more than a day are not a good fit for temporary email. Switch to a forwarding identity so the result doesn’t go to an expired address.

Extend, switch, or delete

Each button changes something different

Extend the time

Keep the current address and emails you’ve received, adding time only to the remaining lifespan. The total lifespan cannot exceed 24 hours.

Get a new address

Create a new random address and reset it to the default lifespan; the old address is then deleted. Websites where you entered the old address will not update automatically.

Delete now

End the current receiving task and revoke the read token. To receive mail again, start over with a completely new address.

Estimate by task

Common wait times

5–30 minutes

Login codes, email confirmations, and instant downloads. The default lifespan is usually enough.

1–6 hours

Queued messages, event confirmations, and manually triggered notifications. Watch the countdown and extend it if needed.

6–24 hours

Slow reviews and responses across time zones. Use a temporary address only if you’re sure the process will finish the same day.

Over 24 hours

Waitlists, giveaway results, and ongoing subscriptions. Use long-term forwarding or a backup email address.

Delivery time is not determined by the inbox alone. Sender queues, spam checks, and network retries can all add delays, so choose an address based on the latest likely outcome—not the ideal delivery speed.
